Recently, On 9 August 2024, Moumita Debnath, a trainee doctor at RG Kar medical college in Kolkata, West Bengal, India was raped & murdered. Her body was seen on campus. This incident has an extensive discussion about the safety of women and doctors in India and caused significant outrage, nationwide protests, & demands for a full investigation.

And The one million doctors across India participated in protests on Saturday for the scandal of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at an R.G. Kar hospital in Kolkata. The strike has paralyzed medical services in hospitals nationwide, with only emergency services remaining operational.

INCIDENT

On 9 august 2024, Debnath was reported missing by colleagues. At about 11:30 am, the trainee doctor’s body was found in one college’s seminar rooms in a semi-nude state with her eyes, and genitals bleeding. She was later declared dead.

The Indian Medical Association president, Dr . R.V . Asokan, stated that women in India are unsafe in any profession, particularly in the medical field.

According to the national crime records bureau, police recorded 31,516 rape reports in 2022, a 20% increase from 2021.
